Twice in one month?
Yes, I'm updating again, for the second time this month!
I'm in the middle of finals, and of course that inevitably leads me to do ANYTHING but study! :)Lets see, I had a good topic. Oh that's right, I wanted to talk about extremes and people who are 'too' extreme.First of all its very hard to define extreme. What seems extreme to some people seems perfectly legitimate to others (eg. skydiving!). But I recently had to read a bunch of essays for my Sex and Religion class dealing with the way sex is dealt with in each religion. The majority of these essays were from a feminist perspective, and that is what I wanted to talk about.
I don't really have anything against feminists, but I don't personally consider myself one, since most are too extreme (in my opinion). A lot of the articles I read talked about a male dominated society in which women have little/no say, be it about contraception, abortion, marriage, etc. These statements were even more persuasive when relating certain Islamic societies like those of Saudi Arabia. They basically went on to say that women need not only look after children (which men pressure them to do) but have their own dreams and goals. I totally agree with this, but I would also like to have children and a husband! They made it seem like these were no longer legitimate goals for a woman to have.It seems like they are trying to over-compensate and revert the world to being a women-dominated world as opposed to male-dominated. This may sound naive, but can't we just have a co-existing world? :PMaybe they (feminists) just need to get their point across and basically try too hard to do it (in my opinion). Or maybe I am just lucky that I didn't grow up in a community where women are looked as non-human beings to be ruled over. I mean in Canada women's rights are almost equal to mens and I have to say that I'm happy about that!...Or maybe it is because the majority of the articles were written by lesbian feminists and they are even more adamant about a woman oriented society than non-lesbians?I don't know, what do you guys think? Too extreme? Or is that what needs to happen in order for there to be progressive change?
Either way for some fun now! Here are some pictures of our fun snow day outside with baby and doggie! :D
An update! :P
Well, I am finally updating, and its going to be a large jumble of things that have happened since last time I did!Ok well, yesterday Gerri and I went to TO and saw our friend Tat who we havn't seen in like.. 5 years! :D that was really fun! (pic, taken by me so my head is slightly cut out :P)We basically did everything! Went to eat indian food, shopped at the eaton centre, had coffee at starbucks, watched a movie (Narnia, which is really good) and went clubbing!!haha and I might add we all got hit on like crazy! :P (mostly by desperate guys, but what can you do?) This trip was really something I needed because with two finals last week, it just makes it so much better to get away and do something fun! And it was really great seeing her again cause even though we have all changed, we still have lots in common :DHmm other than that I've had two finals so far and they went pretty well :D just 2 more to go and it'll be over! I'm also applying for a SWEP (summer-work experience program) position through Queen's and if I get it I'll be working with hamsters and changes in their hormone levels when they eat fatty foods, etc. :P It sounds pretty cool and if I get it my title will be "Behavioural neuroendocrinology research assistant" ! lol now doesn't that just sound cool and a little intimidating?! Also I'll be making $12 an hour, and have 35hours a week.. so that's not TOO shabby :DRight now I can't wait for the Christmas vacation to start! and I can't believe that I havn't bought ANYONE any Christmas presents yet! (it'll all have to be done on the 21st after 4pm).. which is when my last final ends! But at least I have some ideas of what to buy for everyone, so that's good! heh
Julian is a such a big sweety (I mean just look at the picture!!) He's growing really fast, has 2 front teeth and wants to climb on everything! :DI have a few ideas of what to get him for Christmas hehe.. but i don't know if he is going to be too spoiled.. Ahh well, I don't mind, I'm allowed to spoil him! haha I mean he's SOOO CUTE, how can you NOT spoil him!!!Little puppy is growing up too.. in fact he's not that little anymore, and if anyone wants to see a chrismas dog then here is a picture for you. Io sleeping, with a bunch of garlands on him that were not used for the Christmas tree this year :P
He has a habit of chewing EVERYTHING that he can get at, but I think it'll pass.. well I HOPE it will pass, because he is still teething! :DOh and just to say something totally random... I FORGOT to volunteer last week!! I felt so guilty and bad! I mean I volunteer every monday at St. Mary's for 3 hours and last monday I was studying for my bio exam and totally forgot! I only remembered at around 3pm (i'm supposed to volunteer from 11am-1pm) and had to call them and basically apologize. (I'm really bad at lying and even though the idea of saying I was sick crossed my mind, I didn't go with it :P) Now I have to remember to go tomorrow, or else I'll feel even worse!
Ok well that's about it for now! Hope everyone who reads this thing has a very merry Christmas and a happy New-year! I'll try to update more often, but with everything going on i'm not sure if that'll be possible!! :P
